Last summer, I spent some time concentrating on being loved by God. I explored blessings and focused on the feeling of God’s embrace of my soul.
Yesterday, I began reading Rick Pitino’s new book, Rebound Rules - The Art of Success 2.0. He is the legendary coach who has taken three teams to basketball’s Final Four. He, now at University of Louisville, was at University of Kentucky in the ‘90's as they came off probation and, years later, won the ‘96 NCAA Championship.
I just finished a wonderful book, Whatever Happened to Delight?. In it J. Barrie Shepherd has his lectures from the Lyman Beecher Lectures of 2006. These are lectures given each year at Yale Divinity School since 1871.
On Wednesday nights, I’ve been teaching from Bishop Robert Schnase’s book, Five Practices of Fruitful Congregations. We discussed "Passionate Worship" a few weeks ago, and one of the suggestions was to have the sermon scriptures in advance.
REFLECTIONS ON A RENEWAL LEAVE
...or what I did on my summer vacation which really wasn’t a vacation.
In July 2008, I took a renewal leave as suggested by Bishop Wills. I looked forward to this time away. The anticipation itself was good for my spirit.
