Have you connected to a small group yet?

We continue to believe that connecting to a small discipleship group is an important part of growing in faith and developing a deeper connection to your church community. We have just
started a new group called Safe Harbors, which meets on Sunday mornings at 9:45 a.m. at the church. This class, facilitated by Jay Voorhees, is a safe space to examine your faith without worry about saying the wrong thing or fearing that you don’t know enough about the bible. Come join us as we begin by examining where the bible came from, and why we claim it as our authority.

Reading for Growth in Faith

Here are a few recommendations from our Pastor’s reading list for your growth in faith and leadership:

  • A Million Miles in a Thousand Years by Donald Miller
  • Chasing Francis by Ian Morgan Cron
  • The Five Dysfunctions of a Team by Patrick Lencioni
  • Read This Before Our Next Meeting by Al Pittampalli

Stockings for Our Soliders

The Elston Rowland Circle of Old Hickory United Methodist Women is sponsoring a mission project to send “Stockings for our Soldiers”, and want to invite all our OHUMC membership to join us in this effort.

Stockings, with an attached list of possible items, are available in the church office if you wish to participate. Please take one (or more), fill it, and return to the church office no later than October 19th. Please do not take a stocking unless you intend to fill and return it. We hope to fill at least 50 stockings. We will fill more, depending on the response to our request. Please join us in this effort.

This is just our small way of letting our soldiers know that we are behind them! WE OWE THIS TO THEM. Thanks for your support in this project.

Helping Kids Through Our Backpack Ministry

Each summer at "back-to-school" time, the people of the Old Hickory United Methodist Church collect school supplies and assemble backpacks for kids which are given to kids in our church, and distributed through our local elementary school. This month our church collected almost 100 backpacks to help our area kids in their education, offering a prayer of blessing over them for the well being of those who received them. This ministry is just one of many in which our congregation participates as a means of showing the love of Jesus Christ to the children of Old Hickory.

The Story of Everything

A friend of mine in England name Jonny Baker clued me into the following video. Enjoy!

Donate

OHUMC is dependent on the donations of its members and friends to carry on the work of Christ in the Old Hickory area. We appreciate those who love the church and believe in what we are doing, and want to offer them a means of supporting our ministries financially online. Please click on the button above to make your donation.

(All online processing services charge a small fee to process your donation. This fee comes to around $3 per $100 donated and we ask you, if you are willing and able, to include the cost of processing in your donation. Thank you.)
